Physicians

Dr. Thornbury began his medical education at the University of Kentucky, graduating from the College of Pharmacy with an Honors Program distinction. He practiced five years in the rural Appalachian mountains of Virginia with career highlights that include a nationally acclaimed grant from the Diabetes Research & Education Foundation, serving as a Journal Editor of the Virginia Pharmaceutical Association, and being named the Marion-Merrell Dow Distinguished Young Pharmacist of the Year.

Returning to study medicine at the University of Louisville, Dr. Thornbury graduated in the top of his class, summa cum laude and completed a visiting scholarship with Harvard Medical School at The Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Dr. Thornbury began his post-doctoral training in General Surgery at the University of Lousiville affiliated hospitals under the direction of Dr. Hirham C. Polk, Jr., one of the foremost surgical educators in the world. Dr. Thornbury completed his surgical internship and an additional year of residency.

In 1997, Dr. Thornbury moved to Glasgow as the inaugural resident in Family Medicine for the University of Louisville’s Glasgow-Barren County Residency program. He completed a three year residency in Family and Community Medicine and served as it first Chief Resident.

Dr. Thornbury is a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Medicine; and holds a degree of Fellowship with the American Academy of Family Practitioners. He helped establish T.J. Samson Hospital's ongoing Wound Care Center and serves as the Medical Director of the Rehabilitative Medicine Program.

Dr. Thornbury is the Medical Director and C.E.O. of Medical Associates Clinic in Glasgow, Kentucky. He serves as the President of the Barren County Medical Society; and, has been the Chief of Family Medicine at T.J. Samson Community Hospital. He is a member of the Kentucky Acedemy of Family Practitioners and the Kentucky Medical Association, serving in leadership roles in both organizations.

Dr. Thornbury’s practice includes expertise in general internal medicine where he provides private office and hospital-based consultative opinons. In additon to medical problems in the adult and adolescent patient, Dr. Thornbury performs minor surgery and multiple office-based procedures. He has expertise in wound care and hyperbaric medicine, industrial and work-related injuries, and substantial experience in diabetes and skin-related problems.
